There are a few must at tech parties.
On a chili night in San Francisco, I hip hopped my way into a large nearly almost empty office space with a mile high ceiling.
With thumping noise in the background, I had arrived at Heyzap.com funding party in downtown San Francisco.
Dressed in astronaut looking foil suits, I greeted Jude Gomila, one of the founders of Heyzap.com. I really like Jude because he is one super entrepreneur maniac. “You can do it!” He hustles and works super hard.
Next I run into Ellie Cachette Founder of Consumerbell.com. In a way, her personality reminds me of Jude. They are both positive and go getters, traits of successful entrepreneurs.
Finally, I got to meet Jessica Mah (fellow UC Berkeley entrepreneur) that just graduated and is the CEO of Indinero.com. Very good to see young entrepreneurs. She started building business at 12.
So what’s @ at tech party.

The 4 Usual Suspects
1:: Wii. A room dedicated to Wii so gamers can game.
2:: Sausage fest. 90/10 {90 males to 10 females ratio} so ladies, if you like Steve Irkel and the nerd type, this the party
3:: Booz. Free beer and cocktails. AA recipients, STAY AWAY from these parties
4:: DJ. There is always a DJ at these tech parties. The music was great.

So.. I had a great time. One thing I learn is to not be a wall flower, meaning people that stay against the wall and just stare. Freaky!!
I just smile, go up to a person, stick my hand out and say “what brings you here today?”
One thing I have learned, networking is not getting a business card. Instead, {networking = communicating value to a person}
1st base {smile and say hi}
2nd base {find a common denominator. baseball/yoga/cupcakes, but avoid business talk}
3rd base {listen. let them talk. be truly interested + offer value}
home run {by this time, you have identified their hobbies and they have revealed their career. offer value. “Oh, you’re looking for a graphic designer, let me send you someone I know.”
“If you want to reach you personal goal, 1st help someone else reach theirs 1st” – Rayfil Wong

Expect to have a great time and meet some really innovative people.
Iphone App developers + Graphic designers + Really hot nerdy guys/girls
Seriously, the room was filled with smart people. But they are “hot” not in the cover of a fashion magazine “hot”, but in the context of being intellectually stimulating.
Overall, a great night.
So if you think you have a hot web business and need to recruit some team members, these party are a great place to start
Thanks to “T dawg” aka Terrence Huey and “Dragon Lady” Van Nga Pham for accompany me.
